Vusani was the name of our ancestor King Ngubengcuka colloquially meaning ‘let the Thembu nation rise’ – through strong family values – discipline, courage, love and a sense of community. It is theses strong – held traditions that have led us to create a brand of wines that embody such important values.
They are best appreciated when people come together and share stories and learn lessons from those who have travelled the road of life before them.
Only the best vineyards and sites were selected to craft this Flagship Chenin Blanc. The vineyards are planted in the Robertson Wine Valley. This block is planted in tukulu soil and the irrigation is managed to keep the optimal moisture levels in the soil during the growing season. Strict viticultural practices are applied to ensure the grapes have good concentration and that the grapes reach optimal phenolic ripeness.
The grapes were night harvested to ensure we receive cool grapes. After destemming the grapes were transferred into a separator where 4 hours of skin contact was allowed to extract as much of the good phenols as possible. Only the free run juice were drawn off, clarified and fermented in stainless steel tanks at cold temperatures. As the fermentation started the wine was racked into French oak barrels to complete the fermentation. The wine was matured for a further 8 months in French oak Barrels before blending and bottling.
This Chenin Blanc has characteristics of lime an tropical fruit on the nose. Well integrated oak gives hints of spice to the nose. The palate is full and well rounded with a creamy texture. Lime follows through on the palate and lingers with the fresh, crisp acidity.
This Pinotage comes from the Robertson Wine Valley. Planted in shale soils, the irrigation of this block is managed to produce small berries of very high quality and concentration. Large differences in diurnal temperatures help these grapes reach optimal phenolic ripeness without getting over ripe.
The grapes were hand harvested in the early hours of the morning to ensure that we receive cool grapes. After destemming and a very light crush the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation the free run is collected and transferred into 300L French oak barrels. The wine is allowed to go through mallolactic fermentation inside the French oak barrels and are left to age for a further 12 months before blending and bottling.
This Pinotage boasts with a deep ruby red colour. Ample amounts of clove, pepper and fruit on the nose makes this a very interesting Pinotage. The oak is
well integrated and not overpowering. It is a very elegant Pinotage and has a full smooth texture. Well constructed tannin and a well balanced acidity makes this wine a joy for any meal.
